Top honors were rewarded to eleven students from four universities during the annual JUMP into STEM final competition hosted at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) on January 25-26, 2024. The winners were selected from nine teams that competed this year in person in Oak Ridge, TN.

Winning students will be offered paid summer internships at one of three national laboratories: Oak Ridge National Laboratory, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, or Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.

The winners were announced by Nicholas Ryan, ORISE Science, Technology, and Policy Fellow at the U.S. Department of Energy:

  • University of Nebraska, Lincoln– Izzi Bryant, Maddax Frye, Ema Horner, and Sophie Kudron, “Detecting, Contracting, Sealing (DCS) – The Community Envelope.”
  • Purdue University – Andreas Hoess, Aaron Farha, Levi Premer, and Rebecca Lu, “Reducing Barriers to Achieve an Energy Efficient Lifestyle for Low-Income Families in the United States of America.
  • Worcester Polytechnical Institute – Rebekah Shields, “KILN Thermal Energy Storage.”
  • EmbryRiddle Aeronautical University – Spencer Marinac and Jared Williams, “Energy Saving Solutions: Multi-Split Thermal Energy Storage System.”
